Steve Gibons moved to Oregon in 1996 from Hawaii where he taught ocean kayaking and water related activities around the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. He is an avid swimmer, water skier, canoe and kayak enthusiast, and has been around boats and water related activities for 50 years. He loves to guide the "ALL INCLUSIVE" four day/three night tours down the Columbia River and has paddled over 1800 river miles in the last nine years. He also spends a great deal of time kayaking the sloughs and waterways of the bay teaching school kids, groups and individuals about the wetlands and wildlife in the area. Nick Jenkins is the most experienced member of our kayaking team. He grew up in Warren, Oregon, close to the kayak shop and eventually came to work with us when he was in high school. He loved kayaking then, as he does now. He is a long distance runner and enjoys hiking and backpacking. Anything that has to do with the outdoors is his forte. He is especially interested in the history of the area and has been doing much research in this field to better communicate to his customers on his tours what took place around Scappoose Bay and Sauvie Island. He is also a member of the Coast Guard Reserve. Ben Herdrich started work at Scappoose Bay Kayaking in June 2010 and is currently beginning his second summer at the shop. Although he enjoys taking customers on guided tours of the bay area, he spends most of his time moving kayaks down to the docks (his current record is six at once). Additionally, he is on the water almost every weekend taking photos and videos for our new website. On his free time, he enjoys distance running, biking, hiking, and kayak fishing. Ryan Byrd is beginning his first summer working at SBK, and loves working at the marina maintaining our rental fleet and helping customers. Likewise, he has also enjoys paddling the bay on his off days to get personal experience with each kayak. In addition to kayaking, he spends his free time mountain biking, fishing, and distance running. As he enters his senior year at St. Helens High, he hopes to earn the title of State Champion for Cross Country. Go Lions! Dave Anderson loves kayaking so much that he often volunteers to lead our bay area tours and paddling lessons. When he is not padding the local waterways in his Falcon, he also passes the time as a hobby machinist. Baylee Harding is a familiar face at Scappoose Bay Kayaking. She started kayaking when she was a year old and has never looked back! She helps instruct children and helps us instructing at camps in the summer. You will see her smiling face at the shop if you frequent Scappoose Bay Kayaking. |
