Beginning June of 2012 Scappoose Bay Kayaking will be holding a monthly photo contest for our customers in hopes of sharing the beauty of the bay with others. Photos may include wildlife, scenery as well as family and friends. At the end of each month the best picture will be chosen and the subsequent winner will receive a free gift courtesy of SBK. Gifts may include but are not limited to: a free hour of paddling, a gift certificate or kayaking gear or clothing.

The contest asks that the photo be taken in the area surrounding Scappoose Bay within the previous two months and that it is sent to info@scappoosebaykayaking.com. From there the image will be uploaded to Facebook where it will be voted on (or “liked”) by our friendly followers and fans. Limit one photo per person per month.

            Additionally, near the end of the season (usually October) all monthly winners will compete to see who has the best picture of 2012. This gift will be bigger than the monthly rewards and may include a paddle, a new life vest or even a free tour!

Now that the days are getting longer and (hopefully) drier, we will be re-opening the shop to rentals on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-5 starting on February 18th. We still have most of our fleet from last year, ranging from recreational tandems to touring singles and everything in between. As of November, we will be temporarily closing our shop for the winter, due to the arrival of rainy weather. However, we will be re-opening our shop in February for another season of paddling on the most beautiful bay in Northwest Oregon.

It is that time of year again when the weather starts cooling down and the days get shorter. As such, starting this week, we will be reducing our hours to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. We will likely open three days a week until the end of November, at which point we will close until March.

Ever wonder how to get back into your kayak after a rollover? Or how about how to get your friend back in their kayak after the same mishap?

This Saturday, September 3rd at 4pm we will be having our last wet-exit/ re-entry class of the summer. During the hour long class we'll teach solo and assisted capsize recovery techniques as well as how to proper use a spray skirt.    

The class itself will take place at Dalton Park near the Saint Helens docks on the Columbia. If you're interested, give us a call at the shop before noon on Saturday to book a spot. You can reach us at 503 397-2161.

The cost is $45, which includes a life vest, paddle and kayak, though you are more than welcome to bring your own kayak.

The weather forecast is calling for 86 degrees by 4pm so it ought to be a good day to get wet!

Hey everyone, as much as we'd hate to admit it our summer is slowly coming to an end. With the end in sight we are approaching the last nocturnal tours of the summer that we love so much. As it stands right now we have only two tour dates remaining. If you haven't had a chance to paddle with us on one of these we encourage you to do so before the opportunity passes you by.
